Umbrella type
Center-Pole Garden Parasol
Central pole with crank or pulley lift, tilt or collar mechanism and a weighted base. Hardware is large-scale: pole, hub castings, tilt gearbox and base adapter, plus high UV-stability canopy fabric.
Structure
A centre-pole parasol is the same frame logic as a stick umbrella scaled up by roughly three times, which changes what matters. The pole is 38 or 48 mm and carries a crank or pulley lift; the hub casting takes eight ribs over a two to three metre span; and the whole thing stands on a weighted base of 20-40 kg, or is bolted down. Tilt is either a collar in the pole or a toothed joint at the hub. Because it lives outdoors permanently, corrosion resistance and UV stability of the fabric decide service life far more than the mechanical cycle count does.

Assembly flow & quality control points
- 1
Pole preparation
Supply chain / partnersThe pole is cut, punched for the gearbox, tilt joint and locking pin, then finished. Pole length sets the finished height, so it is checked first.
Quality control points
- Pole length and hole position · Tape measure + fixture check per drawing · First article + 1 pc per 2 h
- Coating / corrosion · Thickness gauge; neutral salt spray per buyer spec · Per batch
- 2
Base adapter and base assembly
Supply chain / partnersThe base adapter is fitted to the pole and seated in the base. A parasol that rocks in its base is rejected by the buyer before any other check.
Quality control points
- Adapter rock · Manual rock check with the pole fitted · 100%
- Base mass · Weigh each base or a defined sample · Per batch
- 3
Hub casting and rib assembly
Supply chain / partnersThe die-cast hub is fitted to the ribs and pins, then assembled to the pole. Rib slot fit is what decides whether the canopy sits flat.
Quality control points
- Rib slot fit · Dry assembly of all ribs, no rock, no gap · 100%
- Rib count and symmetry · Count and visual spacing check · 100%
- 4
Crank gearbox and lift mechanism
Supply chain / partnersThe gearbox is mounted and the lift is connected. Crank effort is measured here, because a stiff crank is the most common complaint on a parasol.
Quality control points
- Lift function under load · Cycle the crank with the canopy fitted, no slip, no binding · 100%
- Crank effort · Push-pull or torque gauge to agreed limit · 5 pcs per batch
- 5
Tilt joint fitting
Supply chain / partnersThe tilt joint is fitted and cycled through its locking angles under canopy load.
Quality control points
- Tilt hold under load · Set at each locking angle, no slip · 100%
- 6
Canopy sewing
Supply chain / partnersPanels are cut and sewn, seams sealed, and rib pockets formed. Seam strength is checked alongside leakage because a parasol seam is under near-constant tension.
Quality control points
- Seam strength · Seam slippage / strength test per buyer method · Per batch
- Colour fastness to light · Xenon arc per ISO 105-B02, grade per buyer spec · Per order
- 7
Canopy mounting on the frame
Supply chain / partnersThe canopy is drawn over the frame, seated in the rib pockets and tensioned. On a parasol this is a two-person job and the point where a canopy gets damaged.
Quality control points
- Canopy tension & symmetry · Visual in open position, no sag, no twist · 100%
- Canopy damage · Visual: no tear at the rib pockets · 100%
- 8
Function, wind and UV check
Supply chain / partnersThe parasol is opened and closed, then sampled for wind behaviour and, where specified, UPF. Wind performance on a patio product is a safety issue, not just a durability one.
Quality control points
- Open / close and tilt cycling · Cycle the lift and tilt through full range · 5 pcs per batch
- Wind behaviour · Wind simulation or agreed outdoor test; no breakage, no overturn · Per order
- UPF rating · Spectrophotometer per AS/NZS 4399 or buyer method · Per order
- 9
Appearance inspection and packing
Supply chain / partnersFinal appearance check, then the parasol is packed flat with the pole, base and hardware bagged separately.
Quality control points
- Appearance & workmanship · Visual: no coating damage, no burr, no stain · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
- Kit completeness · Count all bagged hardware against the BOM · Per carton
