Umbrella type

Cantilever / Roman Umbrella

Offset arm carrying the canopy, so the frame works in bending rather than compression. A separate hardware system: arm castings, rotation joint, crank gearbox and a much heavier base.

Structure

A cantilever parasol moves the mast off to one side and hangs the canopy from an arm, which inverts the loading: the arm and its joint work in bending and overturning rather than in compression. That is why the base is far heavier than on a centre-pole parasol, commonly 60-120 kg or bolted into a deck, and why the rotation joint and the gearbox are the two parts that decide whether the product feels solid. The crank both lifts the canopy and swings the arm, so the gearbox does more work than a centre-pole unit. Ribs and canopy are the same family as a centre-pole parasol; everything below the hub is different.

Assembly flow & quality control points

  1. 1

    Mast and base assembly

    Supply chain / partners

The mast is fitted into the base or bolted down. On a cantilever the base is a structural part, not an accessory, and the overturning check belongs to this step.

    Quality control points

    • Base mass and anchoring · Weigh or check the anchoring per drawing · 100%
    • Mast verticality · Spirit level on two axes · 100%
  2. 2

    Arm and rotation joint assembly

    Supply chain / partners

The rotation joint is fitted to the mast and the arm is mounted. Rotation smoothness under canopy load is checked here, because a stiff joint makes the whole product feel cheap.

    Quality control points

    • Rotation smoothness under load · Manual rotation through 360 degrees · 100%
    • Lock holding · Lock at each detent, no drift · 100%
  3. 3

    Gearbox mounting

    Supply chain / partners

The gearbox is mounted and connected to both the lift and the swing mechanism.

    Quality control points

    • Lift and swing function · Cycle through full range, no slip, no binding · 100%
    • Crank effort · Push-pull or torque gauge to agreed limit · 5 pcs per batch
  4. 4

    Hub and rib assembly

    Supply chain / partners

The hub is fitted to the arm end and the ribs and stretchers are assembled. Rib slot fit decides whether the canopy sits flat over such a large span.

    Quality control points

    • Rib slot fit · Dry assembly of all ribs, no rock, no gap · 100%
    • Arm deflection under load · Load to agreed value, measure at the hub end · Per batch
  5. 5

    Canopy sewing

    Supply chain / partners

Panels are cut and sewn with sealed seams and rib pockets. A 3 m canopy is handled on a bench long enough to keep it off the floor.

    Quality control points

    • Seam strength · Seam slippage / strength test per buyer method · Per batch
    • Colour fastness to light · Xenon arc per ISO 105-B02, grade per buyer spec · Per order
  6. 6

    Canopy mounting

    Supply chain / partners

The canopy is drawn over the frame and tensioned. On a cantilever the canopy is mounted with the arm swung out, so the assembly area has to be clearance-checked.

    Quality control points

    • Canopy tension & symmetry · Visual in open position, no sag, no twist · 100%
  7. 7

    Function and overturning test

    Supply chain / partners

The parasol is cycled through lift, swing and tilt, then the overturning check is run with the arm fully extended. This is the safety-critical test for this category.

    Quality control points

    • Overturning resistance · Apply the agreed load with the arm extended, no overturn · Per order
    • Cycle through lift, swing and tilt · Full range cycle, no slip, no binding · 5 pcs per batch
  8. 8

    Appearance inspection and packing

    Supply chain / partners

Final appearance check and flat packing, with the heavy base shipped on its own pallet position.

    Quality control points

    • Appearance & workmanship · Visual: no coating damage, no burr, no stain · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
    • Kit completeness · Count all bagged hardware against the BOM · Per carton
