Selection tips
- Every extra 200 mm of arm length raises the bending moment at the root sharply; section height buys more stiffness than wall thickness.
- An oval or rectangular section resists bending better than a round tube, but the joint ends need a steel insert to spread the load.
- Adhesion comes from pretreatment (phosphating or zirconium conversion); on a permanently outdoor arm, a coating that lifts is a rust clock.
- Check deflection with the rated canopy load hung on the end before shipment: it says more about quality than the paint does.

Profile cutting and forming
Supply chain / partnersThe arm profile is cut and formed. Unlike a centre pole, an arm works in bending, so section height is the design driver, not diameter.

Joint end machining
Supply chain / partnersThe mast end and the hub end are machined to take the rotation joint and the hub. Fit at these two ends decides how much the arm droops under canopy load.

Surface finishing

Deflection check
Supply chain / partnersThe arm is loaded at the hub end and deflection is measured. Cantilever parasols are sold on how little they droop, so this number is usually in the buyer spec.
