Umbrella metal part
Kids Umbrella Shaft
Overview
- Made by
- Supply chain / partners
- Materials
- Carbon steel tube, short length, Aluminium tube (lightweight), Fibreglass (FRP) shaft, non-conductive option
- Finish options
- Bright chrome or nickel, Colour powder coat, Soft PVC sleeve over the tube
Selection tips
- Match shaft length to child height: 55-65 cm is the common range, and an over-long shaft drags on the ground.
- A fibreglass shaft does not conduct electricity, which is the safer choice for outdoor use by children, at a cost.
- Plug or round the tube ends: an open tube cuts fingers and lets water in to rust the inside.
- Coatings must resist saliva and sweat migration (EN 71-3), not just salt spray.
Manufacturing process & quality control points
- 1
Tube cutting and end forming
Supply chain / partnersThe shaft is cut to the shorter kids length and the ends are formed. Kids frames are scaled down, not just shortened, so wall thickness is chosen for a smaller hand rather than for minimum weight.
Quality control points
- Cut length and squareness · Caliper + squareness gauge per drawing · First article + 1 pc per 2 h
- 2
Hole punching and deburring
Supply chain / partnersLatch, runner and rivet holes are punched and every edge is deburred. On a kids frame there is no acceptable burr anywhere: a sharp edge is an automatic safety fail.
Quality control points
- Burr and sharp edge · Gloved touch check plus 10x loupe · 100%
- 3
Surface finishing
Supply chain / partnersPlating or powder coating is applied by the supply chain and checked against EN 71-3 migration limits for the elements it contains, not just for appearance.
Quality control points
- Coating thickness · Thickness gauge per buyer spec · Per batch
- Coating adhesion · Cross-cut and tape test (ISO 2409) · Per batch
- 4
Straightness and fit check
Supply chain / partnersShafts are checked straight and dry-fitted with the runner before assembly.
Quality control points
- Straightness and runner fit · Roll on flat plate; manual slide over full stroke · 100%
