Selection tips

  • The nylon washer sets the tilt feel: too thin and the canopy droops by itself, too thick and it will not move. Start at 0.5-1.0 mm and prove 200 tilts.
  • Use a stainless pin. A carbon steel pin seizes solid within one season on a beach.
  • Thicken the casting around the pin bore: it is the highest-stress section and the first place a tilt joint cracks.
  • Against a moulded plastic joint: plastic is cheaper but creeps and dulls in UV; a zinc casting suits load-bearing joints that are also seen.

    De-gating, deburring and polishing

    Gates and flash are removed and the visible faces are polished in-house. This is part of the die-casting cell, not a separate finishing supplier.

    Plating or coating

    Coating is applied by the supply chain with an extended corrosion requirement, because salt air seizes a joint faster than rain does.

    Pin fitting and tilt test
