Souvenirs: stamps, plaques & magnets
Souvenir Plaque / Commemorative Medallion
A larger die-cast piece sold at scenic spots, museums and events: either a wall-mountable plaque with relief scenery and screw holes, or a pocket medallion on a keyring or in a capsule. Zinc die casting gives layered relief depth and holds a heavy feel that buyers read as value.

Applications
- Tourist attractionsLandmark plaques and city medallions; the silhouette and place name must read at a glance
- Museum & gift shopsExhibition commemoratives; artwork and any licensing terms drive the specification
- CollectiblesDated or numbered issues; consistent finish across a series matters to repeat buyers
- Keychains & charmsSmall medallion version with a loop or hole for a keyring or a cord
Selection tips
- Pick the format by retail channel: wall-mount plaques need flatness and screw-hole positions, medallions need a loop and a protective case.
- Antique finishing is a manual-relief process, so accept a signed range rather than an exact match, and run a whole series in one batch.
- Size drives both price and perceived value - a thicker, heavier piece reads as premium, but shipping weight matters for tourist retail.
- For outdoor installation, ask for a longer corrosion specification and a lacquer; raw antique finishesweather quickly outside.
- Keep place names and dates correct at the artwork stage: a medallion with a wrong date cannot be corrected after tooling.
Manufacturing process & quality control points
- 1
Scenery and text are rebuilt as layered relief so the eye reads foreground, midground and background. Text is set with a minimum height because cast text cannot be as fine as printed text.
Quality control points
- Relief layering and minimum text height · 3D render and 1:1 proof review · Each new tool or project
- 2
Mould engraved, parts cast, de-gated and tumbled. Larger flat areas tend to show flow marks and sink, so gate and vent layout is reviewed on the first shots.
Quality control points
- Flow marks, sink and porosity on flat areas · Visual check under 600-1000 lx, 300 mm distance · First 5 pieces per cavity per shift
- Thickness and weight · Caliper and scale check · First article + every 2 hours

Polishing and plating
Supply chain / partnersAntique finishes are the norm for commemoratives: the piece is darkened and then the high points are relieved by polishing, which is why the same design must be processed in one run to keep the look consistent.
Quality control points
- Antique tone and highlight consistency · D65 light box vs approved sample · One set per plating colour per batch
- Coating thickness and corrosion · Neutral salt spray, 5% NaCl, 35 C (ISO 9227 / GB/T 10125) · One sample set per batch

Enamel fill or epoxy
Supply chain / partnersColour is filled into the recessed areas and baked, or the face is protected with an epoxy dome. On large plaques, colour flatness across a wide cell is harder to hold than on a small badge.
Quality control points
- Colour match and cell flatness · D65 light box plus 10x loupe · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
- 5
Back fitting, mounting and packing
Supply chain / partnersScrew holes, magnet recesses, keyring loops or engraved backs are finished; keyrings and cords are bought-in items. Flatness of wall-mount plaques is checked so the piece sits flush without rocking.
Quality control points
- Flatness of wall-mount plaques · Feeler gauge on a surface plate · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
- Loop and fitting pull strength · Universal tensile machine, 50 mm/min, record peak and failure mode · One sample set per batch
