Polyhedral dice

Polyhedral Die - d4 (Tetrahedron)

A four-sided tetrahedron die used mainly in TRPGs (D&D). Zinc alloy die cast in-house; numbers are engraved or stamped and filled, plating and enamel are outsourced. No assembly. Balance and edge fairness are the buyer's main concern.

Applications

  • Tabletop RPGDamage and small modifiers in D&D-style games
  • Board gamesCompact four-outcome randomiser
  • Collectibles & gifts

Selection tips

  • Balance matters more than finish for dice: ask for a fairness / roll-test report, not just a cosmetic pass.
  • Heavy metal dice need a dice tray or soft mat; rolling on a hard surface dents edges and changes balance.
  • Specify the number style: recessed numbers hold enamel better and wear longer than surface print.
  • For children-exposed items confirm EN 71-1 sharp-edge and small-parts rules, and REACH lead/cadmium limits.

Manufacturing process & quality control points

  1. 1

    Die design & tooling

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Qinxi owns the 3D model and the die for the tetrahedron, so it is made in-house. Face count, edges and number layout are fixed at the enquiry stage.

    Quality control points

    • Edge length and face angle · Engineering review of the tool · Each new tool or project
  2. 2

    Zinc alloy die casting

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

The die is cast on Qinxi's own line, de-gated and tumbled. All four faces and the apex are the visible surface, so fill and flash at the edges and number recesses are checked.

    Quality control points

    • Fill and porosity at edges and recesses · Visual check under 600-1000 lx, 300 mm distance · First 5 pieces per cavity per shift
    • Edge length and mass · Caliper and balance (0.01 g) · First article + every 2 hours

    De-gating, deburring and polishing

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Dice are de-gated, deburred and tumble-polished. This is part of the die-casting process and is done in-house: a clean, flash-free edge keeps the roll true and lets the plating cover evenly.

    Quality control points

    • Sharp edge / burr · Gloved touch check plus 10x loupe · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
  4. 4

    Plating

    Supply chain / partners

Plating is outsourced to Qinxi's finishing partners and verified for thickness, colour and corrosion against the agreed specification.

    Quality control points

    • Coating thickness and colour · XRF gauge; colour check vs master · One set per plating colour per batch
  5. 5

    Numbering and enamel fill

    Supply chain / partners

Numbers are engraved or stamped and filled with enamel or paint. This is done by the supply chain; number legibility and fill overrun are checked.

    Quality control points

    • Number legibility and fill overrun · 10x loupe vs master · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
  6. 6

    Balance and fairness check

    Qinxi in-house

Dice are roll-tested for fairness: a large sample is thrown on a flat surface and the face-up frequency is checked against an even distribution (chi-square), and the centre of mass is checked by float or spin. The roll test is run by Qinxi's own QC and the record is kept per lot for the buyer.

    Quality control points

    • Face-frequency fairness (chi-square) · Roll n dice x m throws; chi-square vs uniform · Per lot, agreed sample plan
