Vent Eyelet / Phoenix Eye (Fengyan)

A flared, usually scalloped eyelet that both reinforces a hole and reads as a decorative vent. Common on cap crowns for ventilation and on jackets as a trim eyelet. Vent eyelets are stamped and the barrel is formed by cold heading, and Qinxi has no stamping or cold-heading line, so they are sourced from the supply chain.

Selection tips

  • Match the barrel length to the fabric thickness so the flange sits flat and the barrel rolls without cracking.
  • The scallop profile is a visible trim detail; confirm the look against the cap or jacket design before tooling.
  • Use stainless for wet or outdoor use; brass is the default for garment needle-detector compatibility.
  • Nickel-free plating is needed for EU skin-contact items to meet REACH nickel-release limits.

    Stamping and barrel forming

    Supply chain / partners

    Coil stock is blanked into the scalloped flange and the barrel is drawn and formed so it rolls over cleanly when set. Qinxi has no stamping or cold-heading line, so this is done by the supply chain to the agreed diameter and barrel length.

    Plating

    Vent eyelets are plated to the target colour. Plating is outsourced to the supply chain; coating thickness and corrosion are verified against the agreed specification.

    • Coating thickness · XRF coating thickness gauge (ISO 3497 / ASTM B568) · One set per plating colour per batch
    • Corrosion resistance · Neutral salt spray, 5% NaCl, 35 C (ISO 9227 / GB/T 10125) · One sample set per batch

    Setting and pull-through test

    Vent eyelets are set through the production fabric and pulled to confirm the barrel rolls and the flange sits flat. Supplied and tested by the supply chain, with Qinxi spot-checking on the actual garment build-up.
