Ladder Lock Buckle / Centre-Bar Slide

A rectangular frame with a centre bar that webbing threads over and back through, used to shorten or lengthen a strap and hold it there. Zinc die-cast versions take a logo and shaped outlines; stamped brass or steel-wire versions are cheaper and flatter. A ribbed centre bar grips better under load but marks soft webbing over time.

Applications

  • BackpacksShoulder-strap length adjuster; usually set once and expected to stay
  • Crossbody bagsStrap adjuster plus keeper; a die-cast version matches a branded D-ring and hook set
  • HandbagsVisible adjuster on a leather or webbing strap; edges must be smooth enough not to mark leather
  • Coats & jacketsTrench-coat belt and cuff-tab adjuster
  • BeltsWebbing belt adjuster in front of a buckle
  • Denim & workwearUtility strap and tool-loop adjustment on workwear

Selection tips

  • Always size by internal slot width, not the outer frame. A slot about 0.3-0.5 mm wider than the webbing is the usual target: looser and the strap slips, tighter and daily adjustment becomes stiff.
  • Test the buckle with the actual webbing. The same adjuster holds firmly on textured nylon and creeps on smooth, coated webbing.
  • Choose the centre bar by duty: a ribbed bar holds under load but can abrade cotton-blend webbing; a smooth bar is kinder to soft straps and needs more wrap angle.
  • Weight is not quality. Some heavy cast buckles are porous inside and snap in a destructive pull test - ask for a pull-to-failure result, not a gram weight.
  • Decide the material by market: iron versions are magnetic and can trigger needle detectors, brass and non-magnetic stainless do not.
  • On leather straps, specify a smooth back and a backing plate behind the buckle, otherwise the frame edge embosses the leather permanently.

    Artwork and webbing fit study

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

The frame is modelled around the actual webbing width and thickness. Nominal size refers to the internal slot width, not the outer frame, so the drawing is driven by the webbing, not by appearance.

    Quality control points

    • Nominal size defined as internal slot width · Drawing review against the buyer's webbing spec · Each new tool or project

    Tool build

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Die-cast tool machined in-house; stamped and wire versions use supplier tooling and Qinxi has no stamping line, so those versions run through the supply chain.

    Zinc die casting and de-gating

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Parts are die cast, de-gated and tumbled. The centre bar is the load-bearing section, so porosity there is a real failure risk and not only a cosmetic issue.

    Quality control points

    • Porosity at the centre bar and corners · Visual check under 600-1000 lx, 300 mm distance · First 5 pieces per cavity per shift
    • Internal slot width · Go/no-go gauge on the actual webbing · First article + every 2 hours

    Deburring and polishing

    Supply chain / partners

Slot edges and the back of the frame are deburred until smooth. Burrs here abrade webbing and can break needles on automated sewing lines.

    Quality control points

    • Burr and edge smoothness · Gloved touch check plus 10x loupe · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
  5. 5

    Plating and corrosion test

    Supply chain / partners

Plated to the target colour and verified. Hardware for bags is commonly specified at a longer salt-spray duration than inner-garment closures because it sees more handling and humidity in transit.

    Quality control points

    • Coating thickness · XRF coating thickness gauge (ISO 3497 / ASTM B568) · One set per plating colour per batch
    • Corrosion resistance · Neutral salt spray, 5% NaCl, 35 C (ISO 9227 / GB/T 10125) · One sample set per batch

Slip and pull test with the real webbing

    Supply chain / partners

The buckle is threaded with the production webbing, loaded to the agreed value and checked for creep, then pulled to failure to find the weak point. Holding power depends on the webbing pair, so the two are tested together.

    Quality control points

    • Creep under load · Fit test with the actual webbing to be sewn · One sample set per batch
    • Ultimate pull strength and failure mode · Universal tensile machine, 50 mm/min, record peak and failure mode · One sample set per batch
