Hat Clip / Cap Hook

A small spring clip or hook that hangs a cap from a belt loop, bag strap or backpack daisy chain so it stays with the wearer when it is off the head. Bodies are either zinc die-cast for shape and logo, or spring-steel / stamped wire for the cheapest and strongest spring action.

Overview

Applications

  • Baseball capsClipped to the cap's back strap or sweatband edge; jaw opening must fit the strap without crushing it
  • Work capsHeavier duty clip for caps worn on site; corrosion resistance matters because of sweat and outdoor use
  • Bucket hatsClipped to the brim edge or chin-cord loop
  • BackpacksHooks onto a daisy chain or webbing loop to carry the cap outside the pack
  • HandbagsDecorative clip on a strap or handle, often with a logo
  • BeltsClipped over a belt or belt loop

Selection tips

  • Specify what the clip has to hold: a sweatband edge, a belt loop and a backpack daisy chain need different jaw openings and spring rates.
  • Spring-steel versions spring better and cost less but are ferrous - they can trigger needle detectors if they travel with a garment.
  • Sweat is the real corrosion test for a hat clip: pair the plating thickness with a salt-spray acceptance level, not just a colour name.
  • Jaw edges must be smooth before plating; a plated burr is still a burr and will snag cap fabric.
  • For children's caps, small clips are small parts: check the age grading and the small-parts rule for the destination market.

Manufacturing process & quality control points

  1. 1

Route decision: die-cast body vs spring steel

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

A zinc die-cast body with a bought-in spring is die-cast in-house; final assembly is handled by the supply chain. Spring-steel and stamped-wire clips are made and assembled by the supply chain.

    Quality control points

    • Route confirmed against jaw opening and spring rate · Engineering review of the enquiry · Each new tool or project
  2. 2

    Body production and deburring

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Die-cast bodies are de-gated, tumbled and deburred. The jaw edges touch the cap fabric, so every sharp edge is removed before plating rather than after.

    Quality control points

    • Jaw edge smoothness · Gloved touch check plus 10x loupe · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
    • Jaw opening dimension · Go/no-go gauge on the buyer's strap · First article + every 2 hours
  3. 3

    Plating

    Supply chain / partners

Plated to the target colour. Hat clips live in sweat and outdoor air, so the finish is usually specified together with a salt-spray acceptance level.

    Quality control points

    • Coating thickness · XRF coating thickness gauge (ISO 3497 / ASTM B568) · One set per plating colour per batch
    • Corrosion resistance · Neutral salt spray, 5% NaCl, 35 C (ISO 9227 / GB/T 10125) · One sample set per batch
  4. 4

    Spring assembly and cycle test

    Supply chain / partners

Spring and pivot are assembled, then the clip is opened and closed repeatedly and clipped onto the intended strap to check grip and jaw recovery.

    Quality control points

    • Spring action and jaw recovery · Open-close cycling on a rig or by hand count · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
    • Grip on the intended strap or belt · Universal tensile machine, 50 mm/min, record peak and failure mode · One sample set per batch
