Decoration & branding
Decorative Button (Rhinestone / Epoxy Dome / Enamel)
A trim button used mainly for decoration: a die-cast body set with glass rhinestones, an epoxy dome over printed artwork, or enamel-filled relief. It is handled and seen more than any other trim, so surface quality dominates acceptance.

- HandbagsFlap ornament or a cover plate that hides the functional closure underneath
- Crossbody bags
- BeltsRivet-on decorative head on a screw or prong base for leather belts
Selection tips
- Decide the order of operations early: plating always comes before adhesive setting and doming, so artwork changes after plating mean scrap.
- Stone retention depends on seat depth and adhesive cure; on garment applications ask for a wash trial rather than relying on a dry pull test.
- Rhinestone setting raises the profile and can snag knitwear - check the button height against the garment's abrasion requirements.
- For denim, antique finishes on zinc are the first thing to fail in stone wash; a thicker plate or a protective lacquer is usually worth the cost.
- For children's products, small decorative stones add a small-parts risk: the whole button must survive use-and-abuse testing, not just visual inspection.
Manufacturing process & quality control points
- 1
Artwork is converted to a relief model and the stone layout is fixed. Stone seats are modelled as recesses with enough wall thickness to hold a press-fit stone.
Quality control points
- Stone seat depth and wall thickness · 3D model review and prototype sample · Each new tool or project
- 2
Tool is machined and parts die cast, de-gated and tumbled. Casting defects on the face cannot be hidden by stone setting, so the cosmetic face is inspected before plating.
Quality control points
- Face porosity and flash · Visual check under 600-1000 lx, 300 mm distance · First 5 pieces per cavity per shift
- 3
Polishing and plating
Supply chain / partnersMirror or brushed polishing followed by plating to the chosen colour. Plating must be complete before stone setting and doming, since adhesive and dome materials cannot survive the plating line.
Quality control points
- Plating colour vs approved sample · D65 light box, 300 mm · One set per plating colour per batch
- Coating adhesion · Cross-cut and tape test (ISO 2409) · One sample set per batch
- 4
Stone setting / epoxy doming
Supply chain / partnersStones are set with adhesive or mechanical prongs; domed parts are dispensed with epoxy and cured flat. Bubbles, dust inclusions and over-doming onto the metal line are the usual defects.
Quality control points
- Stone retention · Tape-pull and light pry check on samples · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
- Dome defects · 10x loupe for bubbles, dust and edge run · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)

Wash and wear simulation
Supply chain / partnersFor garment applications the finished button is put through the buyer's wash cycle with the actual fabric and checked for colour change, stone loss and lacquer breakdown.
Quality control points
- Appearance after wash · Agreed wash cycle then visual and tape-pull check · One sample set per batch
