Cord Lock / Spring Cord Stopper

A small two- or three-part fitting on a drawcord: a spring-loaded plunger releases when pressed so the cord can be pulled, and grips when released. Bodies are moulded plastic, stamped metal or die-cast zinc; the spring itself is a bought-in component in every version.

Applications

  • Hoodies & sportswearHood drawcord stopper; on children's wear drawcords themselves are restricted, so the fitting is often omitted
  • BackpacksCinch-cord stopper at the opening of a drawstring top or a stuff sack
  • Coats & jacketsHem and waist drawcord stopper on shells and parkas
  • Bucket hatsSweatband or chin cord adjuster
  • Dresses & overallsWaist drawcord on dresses and overalls

Selection tips

  • Specify the cord diameter before anything else: the hole size decides holding force, and a slightly oversized hole slips no matter how good the spring is.
  • Metal cord locks look premium but are heavier and, on thin fabrics, can abrade the cord exit; plastic versions are kinder to lightweight garments.
  • On children's wear, check the drawcord regulation of the destination market before specifying a cord lock at all - in many markets hood drawcords on young children's clothing are not allowed.
  • Springs are bought-in: ask the supplier for the spring material and a cycle-test result rather than assuming stainless.
  • Burrs inside the cord channel are the number-one defect - they cut the cord and the complaint appears months after shipment.

Manufacturing process & quality control points

  1. 1

Route decision: die-cast, stamped or moulded

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Zinc alloy bodies are die-cast in-house; finishing (plating) is carried out by the supply chain. Stamped and turned metal bodies and all plastic bodies come from the supply chain, and the spring is bought in for every version.

    Quality control points

    • Route and cord diameter confirmed · Engineering review of the enquiry · Each new tool or project
  2. 2

    Body production

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Die-cast bodies are de-gated, tumbled and drilled; stamped or turned bodies and moulded bodies are produced by the supply chain to the same hole and plunger geometry.

    Quality control points

    • Hole diameter and plunger bore · Pin gauge and go/no-go check · First article + every 2 hours
    • Burr inside the cord channel · 10x loupe plus cord pull-through test · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
  3. 3

    Plating or finishing

    Supply chain / partners

Metal bodies are plated to the target colour. The cord channel is a wear surface, so plating inside the hole matters as much as the outside appearance.

    Quality control points

    • Coating thickness and corrosion · Neutral salt spray, 5% NaCl, 35 C (ISO 9227 / GB/T 10125) · One sample set per batch
  4. 4

    Spring assembly and function test

    Supply chain / partners

Spring and plunger are assembled and each unit is actuated: it must release under finger pressure, return fully, and hold the production cord without slipping or cutting it.

    Quality control points

    • Plunger return and holding force on the cord · Press-and-pull test with the production cord · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
    • Cord damage after repeated adjustment · 50 adjustment cycles then cord inspection · One sample set per batch
