Cord End / Drawcord Ring (Aglet)

The metal ring crimped or clamped onto the end of a drawcord so the cord cannot fray or pull back through the eyelet. Simple versions are a stamped or drawn ferrule; decorative versions in zinc die casting carry a logo and match the rest of the metal trim set.

Applications

  • Hoodies & sportswearHood and waist drawcord ends; must not have a sharp edge next to the face or neck
  • Coats & jacketsHem drawcord ends on shells and parkas, often paired with a cord lock
  • BackpacksDrawcord ends on cinch openings and stuff sacks
  • Bucket hatsChin cord end or sweatband cord end
  • Dresses & overallsWaist drawcord end, usually a small decorative metal ferrule

Selection tips

  • Order the cord end and the crimping tool as a set: the crimp geometry is what actually holds, and a mismatched tool is the usual cause of pull-offs.
  • Specify the cord diameter and construction (braided, elastic core, hollow) - the same nominal diameter behaves differently under crimp.
  • On hoodies, check the end-of-cord position against the market's drawcord rules for children's wear before specifying metal ends at all.
  • Ferrous ferrules can trigger needle detectors; brass, aluminium and zinc are safe choices for needle-detected markets.
  • Match the finish to the eyelets and cord lock - mixed plating colours on one drawcord is the most visible quality signal on a garment.

Manufacturing process & quality control points

  1. 1

Route decision: die-cast vs stamped ferrule

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Decorative zinc die-cast cord ends are made in-house; drawn or stamped ferrules in brass, aluminium or steel come from the supply chain, since Qinxi has no stamping line.

    Quality control points

    • Route and cord diameter confirmed · Engineering review of the enquiry · Each new tool or project
  2. 2

    Body production

Qinxi in-houseZinc & Aluminum Alloy Die Casting

Die-cast bodies are de-gated and tumbled; stamped ferrules are drawn and formed by the supply chain. The inner bore must match the cord so the crimp bites without cutting.

    Quality control points

    • Bore diameter · Pin gauge and go/no-go check · First article + every 2 hours
    • Porosity on the visible face · Visual check under 600-1000 lx, 300 mm distance · First 5 pieces per cavity per shift
  3. 3

    Deburring and polishing

    Supply chain / partners

Edges are deburred until smooth. A cord end sits close to the face and neck on hoodies, so a sharp edge here is a safety issue rather than a cosmetic one.

    Quality control points

    • Edge sharpness · Gloved touch check plus 10x loupe · Per lot, AQL 2.5 (ISO 2859-1 general level II)
  4. 4

    Plating

    Supply chain / partners

Plated to the target colour and checked. On garment cords the plating also meets sweat and laundering exposure, so thickness and lacquer are specified together with the buyer.

    Quality control points

    • Coating thickness · XRF coating thickness gauge (ISO 3497 / ASTM B568) · One set per plating colour per batch
    • Corrosion resistance · Neutral salt spray, 5% NaCl, 35 C (ISO 9227 / GB/T 10125) · One sample set per batch
  5. 5

    Crimp and pull-off test

    Supply chain / partners

The cord end is crimped onto the production cord with the buyer's tooling and pulled: it must not pull off and must not cut the cord. Tooling and cord are tested as a pair.

    Quality control points

    • Pull-off resistance on the production cord · Universal tensile machine, 50 mm/min, record peak and failure mode · One sample set per batch
